Beacon enables collection of payments via browsers through Stripe. Stripe is a world-leading payment gateway, built for simplicity and with a focus on ease of integration. Today it's used by leading charities including Oxfam, Unicef and Comic Relief.
Google Pay is one of the most popular browser payment systems. When browser payments are enabled you'll be able to accept Google Pay through the Chrome web browser.
Create a Stripe account and connect it to Beacon
To accept browser payments through Beacon, you'll need to connect your Stripe account to Beacon. Instructions for how to do this can be found in this article.
Enable Google Pay payments in Beacon
You can enable Google Pay in Beacon with just a few clicks.
Go to Settings > Payments in your Beacon sidebar
If you have not yet connected Stripe then follow these instructions to connect your stripe account.
In the Google Pay section, enable the toggle. This will automatically configure your Stripe account to accept Google Pay payments.
That's it!
If a donor has browser payments set up on a compatible device they'll now see browser payments as a payment option on your donation forms - powered by Stripe. When new donations come in, you'll see them in your Stripe dashboard.
Frequently asked questions
Does Google Pay work on embedded forms?
No, Google Pay will only show as a payment option on a standalone form. This is a Google restriction unfortunately!
When does the Google Pay button show?
Google Pay (like Apple Pay) will only show as a payment method when they're able to be used. For Google Pay to be available, someone will need to match all of these criteria:
Using the Chrome browser
Logged into Google
Have set up a payment card in their Google Pay settings
Viewing a standalone form
If you'd like to test Google Pay on your device, you can go to this page from Stripe. In a few seconds, it will show a Google Pay or Apple Pay payment button at the top of the page.
